Extended Cab vs Crew Cab – Which Should You Get?

What is an extended cab vs crew cab – which should you get?

These days pickup trucks are everywhere. The times when pickups were made only for work are long gone. Modern trucks can be outfitted to be as opulent as the most iconic names from Germany. So, whether you need a workhorse or want the lap of luxury, there is a pickup for you. Once you decide if you need 4WD (or just Rear-Wheel Drive), the next big decision is to figure out which cab type works best for you and your needs.

How to tell if a pickup is a Regular Cab

A regular cab pickup truck features just one row of seating with a small amount of legroom and storage space, as you might guess. A regular cab pickup truck was once the single configuration available on pickup trucks. In most regular cab pickups, the seats nearly touch the rear of the cab. This is the “work” version of a truck and can usually be ordered with manual locks and windows. A regular cab is made for work, not for hauling your friends and family around.

Is an Extended Cab right for me?

As one could probably assume, an Extended Cab (can also be called a Double Cab pickup) is basically a Regular Cab with extra space behind the front seating. When it was first introduced, extended cab pickups were only available as 2-door models and had small jump seats behind the front row. These days they may be called a Double Cab pickup, these trucks now have tiny, second-row doors for access to the cargo area. Despite having 2 rows of seating, an Extended Cab pickup truck would not be the ideal option for long trips, even if it can carry more passengers.

How to tell if a truck is a Crew Cab

While not as apparent as the earlier models, a Crew Cab pickup features four normal-size doors and the space to hold your ‘crew.’ Crew Cab pickups are built to carry more of the driver’s stuff and-or passengers. In some circles, these styles of trucks have become the family vehicle. A Crew Cab truck’s larger size and powerful engine choices are unavailable in the sedan world while still providing the luxuries and legroom that families desire.
